“My wish is to stay always like this, living quietly in a corner of nature.” ― Claude Monet

The Seasons

An Early Robin

I heard a robin sing outside;
It seemed to me to be too soon,
For winter is a lively bride,
And she'll display her gown with pride
While dancing late beneath the moon.

The lawn is still concealed by snow,
And frigid winds will not disband.
I won't observe the flowers grow
Nor feel the sun's appealing glow
Until the snow has left the land.

And yet, the song did make me feel
That spring would share her warmth with me.
The thought retained a strong appeal,
But it did seem a bit surreal,
For winter's gown was flowing free.

Alas, another week has passed,
And I no longer hear her sing.
A blizzard brought a frosty blast
That left the town with snow amassed
And buried all that spring would bring.

Behind the Verse

While I was at my computer, I heard a bird singing outside the window, which struck me as odd since the ground was still covered in snow. However, it reminded me and brought hope that spring would soon be approaching—until reality smacked me a week later when we were hit by a snow blizzard.
