“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” ― William Wordsworth

Merging Dreams

She enters while I sleep at night
  And wanders through my dreams.
A sense of wonder and delight
Fills her heart when thoughts ignite,
  Displaying joyful themes.

Enchanted by the striking sight,
  She then continues on.
She searches for a special site
Where fantasies are cloaked in light
  And images are drawn.

She sees the dream beneath a beam,
  Cocooned in silky white.
She sits to watch the nascent dream—
The one she knows will reign supreme
  And rise with her in flight.

She smiles along with widened eyes;
  She knows I will be free.
And from this dream, I will arise
To offer her what she will prize—
  A reverie of glee.

Before her eyes, I then appear—
  A modest butterfly.
I stretch my wings as she comes near;
She tells me I should have no fear,
  That we will own the sky.

She spreads her wings and starts to fly
  Toward where stars are drawn.
We dance all night while flying high
Beneath the moon's approving eye,
  Then share a kiss at dawn.

Behind the Verse

In this romantic verse, a husband and wife share a dream in which they meet at night and fly toward the sky like a pair of courting butterflies beneath the watchful gaze of a full moon.
