Inner Beauty

Alas, my flower's bloom begins to fade,
And all that I can do is share her fate.
Her lustrous eyes display a dimmer shade,
Diminishing their sparkling, lively state.
Her supple petal wanes and dims with age,
Her flowing crown of silk undone by time.
Although I've seen and loved each turning page,
I look toward when she'll regain her prime.
I know that time cannot erase her grace
Or steal the inner bloom that she displays.
My aging eyes have prized her lovely face;
She's won my loyal love for endless days.
So even if her petal fades with time,
 My flower's inner grace remains sublime.

Behind the Verse

With this poem I reflect on the bittersweet nature of aging and the enduring bond between a husband and his beloved wife.
