Early Morning Frost

It’s a cold winter morning when she awakens
And strolls toward the window.
A light layer of frost covers the glass;
A blanket of pearly snow swaddles the landscape.
She tilts her head and smiles.
Her finger glides along her lips
While deep in thought;
Serenity graces her face.
Fond memories from years ago
Dance within her mind.
She closes her eyes
And softly whispers a name.
Then the wind lashes against the window,
And she notices the morning frost.
Her warm fingers trace along his face,
Wiping him away,
And she returns to sleep.

Behind the Verse

I was feeling a bit melancholy when I wrote this poem, but I can't remember what inspired me to do so. In any case, it captures a momentary interaction between a woman who is enjoying a peaceful winter morning of fond memories and the frost that has accumulated on her window. Here, the woman briefly notices the morning frost before wiping it away, as if she were acknowledging the transience of cherished moments that have now become only memories.
