“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” ― William Wordsworth

Love & Romance

By The Window

He sits in silence by the window
But hears the cars that journey by.
And in this quietude,
Pernicious memories intrude—
The remnant shadows left to die
The day she said goodbye.

And then he catches, by the window,
Fragmented echoes that remain;
They fill his troubled mind
With bitter words she left behind,
Reminding him of her refrain:
“Their love had been in vain.”

And in the silence, by the window,
Where darkness fills the quiet room,
He hears what she avowed,
And he recalls they'd been too proud
To end the fights that brought them gloom
And made the room their tomb.

In silence, he sits by the window;
He hears her shadow pace around.
The echoes of her shouts
Have now exposed her latent doubts,
The ones she knew had held her bound
And caused her love to drown.

Behind the Verse

I have probably been reading too many articles about modern relationships and the challenges many couples face. Still, they enable me to imagine scenarios that I can then weave into my poetry. This poem represents one of those cases. With it, I peek into fragmented memories, the haunting echoes of a lost love, and the ache of an unwanted goodbye.
