“We do not remember days, we remember moments.” ― Cesare Pavese

Slumber Waits

The comfy pillow holds my head,
 Imploring me to sleep.
The sullen wind begins to shriek,
And I can hear her harsh critique
 Of dreams I've yet to reap.

But slumber pauses at my door
 To wait till I have called.
My mind has yet to clear the day,
Deciding what to throw away
 From all that it has hauled.

Yet anxiousness demands to stay,
 Which takes away my rest.
Our daily life is hard on us;
It causes us to gripe and fuss,
 Because we feel oppressed.

But once the burdened room is cleared,
 The pillow holds me tight.
I feel when slumber shuts my eyes;
The wind restarts her lullabies,
 And I am one with night.

Behind the Verse

I think many of us can relate to this poem, where slumber waits patiently for the day’s troubles to pass. But when we have unburdened ourselves of all the cares and worries that weigh down our minds, we get restful sleep and become one with the night.
