“We do not remember days, we remember moments.” ― Cesare Pavese

Potpourri

Imprisoned

There is a prison
from which I can't escape.
It is small, restrictive,
and yet unbounded.

I pace day in and day out
within this prison,
traversing thoughts of regret
and ancient memories
which return like ocean waves
driven by storms—
unabating, ferocious, and merciless.

And within this tiny prison,
they echo endlessly.

I pause,
hands clasped behind my back,
to look outside the windows
that are my eyes,
and I see hope…

hope for release,
either through death or renewal.

But the question that remains is…
which one
will reach me first?

Behind the Verse

Looking back on my life and thinking about where I have gone wrong and what I could have done differently drew me to write this poem. I make use of metaphorical language to convey a profound sense of psychological confinement, a self-imposed emotional prison, that exists within our minds.
