“We do not remember days, we remember moments.” ― Cesare Pavese

An Unfinished Book

My life has unfolded
like a book
comprised of many chapters,
filled with stories:
some retold,
others left untold.

There are stories of playtime,
ice cream, and friends,
and of secret teenage crushes
when love was just a dream.

And hidden within are stories
of questionable associations,
unwise decisions,
and paths of dense darkness.

Yet others tell
of unshackled pain
from thoughtless words
that left gaping wounds
that still bleed.

But there are also chapters
of genuine love,
in which hearts unite
and the phrase
“happily ever after”
becomes a reality.

Which chapter
should I turn to tonight?

Behind the Verse

I wrote this poem as an introspective look at life, viewing it as a book of chapters containing forgotten memories, difficult decisions, and the desired hope that every story still has a beautiful ending.
